We will generally carried out an infiltration test at this site ahead of making the planning application. It is our intention to find the infiltration rate of the ground to assess whether we need to divert any of the surface water off-site to satisfy the planning requirements.

BRE 365 infiltration test synthetic pitches

Sometimes we’re lucky enough to find the whole pitch can serve as a soakaway without the need for expensive attenuation measures and putting strain on an already over worked surface water drainage system.

SUDs principles aim firstly to utilise the water in the form or rainwater harvesting, secondly option infiltrate the ground right where it lands, if this fails we will attempt to hold it nearly to give the opportunity to infiltrate and lastly discharge into a surface sewer system or combined sewer.

Positive drainage outfall synthetic pitch

On one project recently we designed in perimeter trenches connected to the lateral drainage system and proved the pitch is nearly 200% capable of taking 1 in 100yr +40% for climate change… Two further projects enabled us to utilise a local soakaway and we’re currently designing a system which will contain the water in a manmade wetland habitat which will benefit people and nature alike.

Take the time and effort and you might be pleasantly rewarded.

Whether you manage a Premier League training ground or a community club, the principle is the same: the right surface, independently specified.
